Big John’s Guitars: Your new home for tone
Absolutely Shredable
BJG Mods
Live Content
Absolutely Shredable is the Big John Guitar’s answer to taking your stock pickups and enhancing the tonal options you have. Some mods require no additional parts and can be changed mid-song with a simple turn of the tone knob.
Stock to Rock Series
Imagine being able to play your strat stock and when you need it roll the middle tone knob down and play the middle and bridge PUs in series like a higher output humbucker! with no strat hum!
If you want that big jazz sound switch to the neck and roll back the middle tone and you have a series humbucking PU for huge tone! All with stock controls…no new parts!
This mod uses the stock 3way switch to play both PUs in series in the middle position instead of the weak stock sound. So now, when you step up to solo let them feel it! Same PUs same switch big tone!
Now this is a versatile mod. The top tone knob is used to blend the stock sound with the series sound.
Tone all the way up is stock sound. Tone all the way down is all four coils in series for a huge solo sound.
In between are some of the coolest sounds a les paul, SG, or 335 ever made. from a tele to an out of phase funk machine!
This mod turns a gibson into a do it all wonder guitar. No visible change to the instrument.
BJG Mods represent your standard setups and fret work to make any guitar more playable
Most guitars you buy need a setup, regardless of the name on the head stock or how much you paid for it. A good setup can do wonders for a “bad” guitar or set a “good” guitar straight for many years.
Remember it’s your time and effort put into perfecting your art.
You’re worth it!
Includes fret board contouring (as far as existing fret height will allow) and nut slots filed for best playability and tuning
- $50 plain setup no leveling
- unfortunately very few guitars frets are level enough for this so keep that in mind when looking at prices
- $125 For fret level crown and dress on narrow frets with setup.
- $150 guitars with wide jumbo frets.
- $175 guitars with wide jumbo frets and double locking trem (includes locking nut height adjustment)
Fretboard Contouring is a technique John developed over the years to get better sounding and playing guitars period.
It is applied in fret level and crowns to overcome high action and buzzing chords.
The most pronounced use is in (fret jobs) fretboard preparation before adding new frets.
The main gist of “Fretboard Contouring” is…
Your guitar strings do not vibrate in a perfectly straight line.
It is common practice (for the other guys) to make fretboards as perfectly straight and level as possible. This helps, but is not ideal.
We shape your neck to bow only where it needs to.
This allows low fast action with minimal fret buzz.
Go ahead…hit that G chord hard if you want.
Need to work on really fast scales? NO Problem!
Now you can push even an ordinary guitar into the boutique range by having the finest frets installed.Fret jobs like this can only be found on guitars for $3000 and up.
Refrets start at $300, which includes planing the fretboard with the proper radius and action that defies logic, with very little string buzz.
- $300 for bolt on necks must mail neck only stainless plus $50
- $50 extra to refinish maple fingerboards or save original finish on maple board
- $400 for set neck guitars stainless plus $100
