A couple of months ago, a friend of mine asked me to write a new theme song for his podcast, one I’d previously co-hosted and provided the original theme for. He listened to the KCWM catalog and wanted to combine “The Original” and “All the Feels”.
It took me about 45 minutes to come up with the foundational structure for a new song and a couple of hours to record it. The song itself is shortened to better fit the theme of a podcast.
I really liked how it came out and I’m going to flesh this out into a song for the KCWM catalog, which I hope will be the beginning of a new volume.
I’ve actually seen my listener numbers on Spotify fall to about 1/3 of what they were at the height of releasing music. I know that not releasing a full length album since mid 2021 has that effect and that’s 100% on me. I also realize the DMCA-free music choices, including rock music, has grown and the niche my music falls into doesn’t have the same allure that others do.
While I don’t write and release music expecting to see huge numbers, I’ll admit that I let it get the better of me and got really down on myself about it. I’m working on overcoming that.
Here’s to more new music in 2023.
